When you walk by a demolition site, it can be almost awe-inspiring. There are cranes as tall as skyscrapers, and piles of debris as far as the eye can see.
From excavators to wrecking balls, you’ve probably seen all types of demolition equipment. Each machine plays an important role, from tearing down structures to transporting debris.
At Bella Contracting, we understand that each project is unique. We specifically adapt our strategy and equipment for each building and/or job site. For example, the procedure for demolishing a house is a lot different from doing a commercial office space.
Here are some of the equipment, tools, and attachments that we use during demolition and excavation projects:
Skid Steers
Skid steers offer powerful force in a medium-sized machine. Due to their mobility and relatively small size, skid steers can be used in tight or difficult locations.
You can use a skid steer for a variety of jobs. They’re highly effective at:
- Lifting heavy materials
- Removing snow
- Landscaping work
- Transporting debris and/or materials around the job site
- Excavating land
- Structural demolition projects
- And more
You can attach various tools to a skid steer for specific jobs. A few common attachments include snowblowers, trenchers, and cement mixers. Depending on the size of the structure and the surrounding landscape, our contractors will use a variety of attachments.
Grapple Buckets
If you need to clear your property of debris, a grapple bucket attachment comes in handy. These tools attach directly to a skid steer. Grapple buckets have curved plates that are used to lift and maneuver construction debris with ease.
Excavators
Just like with a skid steer, you can attach various tools to an excavator to enhance its capabilities. They can rotate a full 360 degrees, which makes it easy to access hard-to-reach areas.
Excavators can be used to dig trenches, demolish structures, and clear away obstacles (like tree roots or bushes). These heavy-duty machines are often used at commercial and industrial job sites.
There are several different types of excavators. For example, a long reach excavator can demolish tall buildings. Mini excavators are used in smaller spaces. Certain excavation machines can lift up to 80,000 lbs.
Hydraulic Hammers
Hydraulic hammers can be used in place of blasting. They’re fitted to excavators and used to demolish structures. These powerful hammers can demolish hard materials, including concrete. If there are large rocks on your property, a hydraulic hammer can be used to break them into smaller pieces.
To demolish materials, a hydraulic hammer exerts high pressure using a canister of pressurized hydraulic oil. This mechanism is precisely what makes it more powerful than hand-held tools.
Hand-Held Tools
With interior demolition projects, sometimes a hand-held tool is all that’s necessary. An advantage to these tools is that they’re easy to control; this minimizes any damage to surrounding structures and other interior materials.
When you need to perform precise work, a portable drill, saw, or hammer will do the trick.
